Art of question paper leaks

(Following is based upon a real discussion which I had today morning)

As I was making efforts to keep myself afloat in the swimming pool, I overheard some conversations -

"Puraa paper pataa hota hai, wo to humein mil hi jaata hai ... tab bhi hum nahi padhte hain" ... and so on

The guy who did bulk of talking looked around 15 years old and seemed like quite a spoilt brat.

I chipped in with some expert comments and questions -

"Which board?"

"Kisi bhi board ka"

After a minute of chat I gathered that he had just given Class 10 exams in ICSE board and was planning to take science stream(PCM), and he studied in a school (say SKP). He had earlier managed to do the same at his previous school (say CRK).

Inquisitively, I tried to gather more information on how he manages to get the paper

"Bus kuch nahi, security guard ko paise do. 8th, 10th, 12th ke papers. Wo ek extra copy karaa leta hai. ICSE ke paper out karna sabse easy hai. Koi seal nahi hoti"

"Waise to CBSE and ..."

"Haan CBSE aur Chattisgarh board ke bhi paper milte hai na. But uska doosra tarika hai."

"Kaise?"

"Printing press mein mil jaate hain. Wo kya hai na ... usme seal lagi rehti hai so paper nikaal nahi sakte ... ICSE mein seal nahi hoti. Ye sirf Bhilai aur Durg mein hota hai. Waise milne ko to IIT ka bhi paper mil jaata hai. Lekin uske liye 25 - 50 hazaar maangta hai. "

(Half a minute of silence)

Waise aap kya kar rahe ho"

(I tell 2 lines about myself)

"Haan ek baar MBA kar lo to life mast ho jaati hai ... Meri mummy kehti hai ki tu dukaan mein baithta hai, tu to aadha MBA ho hi gaya hai. Bus ek degree ki kami hai. Kaafi to aata hi hai humein dukaan mein baith kar "

"Kaun si dukaan hai aapki ?"

"Saree ki dukaan hai hamaari. yahin pass mein hai. XYZ Sarees."

Again the boasting continues ...

"Main 10th board ke pehle roj Bhilai jaakar paper laaya hoon ... Har ek paper. Meri sister ke bhi saare papers jugaade the maine"

....

....

For a moment, I felt like an idiot having slogged so many years ... and the next moment I was inside the water, continuing to make efforts to prevent myself from drowning, after such a heavy dose!

    We spend most of the time in our life staring at blackboards...and some time later white boards....Just few days back I came to know of an organised "crime" of supplying question paper solutions to candidates in engineering semester exams spread over whole of Bhilai

    From that intellectual and knowledgeable discussion I had, it seems Bhilai is a big center for buying question papers!

    Totally off the track ->

    These question papers suppliers shouldn't define their business as "supplying question papers". Rather they could position themselves in service sector of the economy and be "End to End Admissions solution provider"

Classifying people

One of the important tools used by marketers for identifying potential market is market segmentation, in which subgroup of people or organizations sharing one or more characteristics are grouped together. Using similar concept, people can be segmented based upon their basic philosophy or their basic approach towards life. It might be extremely difficult, as not all may express their beliefs openly. Maybe few sort of weird approaches mentioned below might help. One such method can be segmenting on basis of their movie or book preferences. For example a person whose favorite book is The Fountainhead or 1984 is likely to be different from a person whose favorite books include Sidney Sheldon and likes. An area of darkness ?

The title of this post finds its origins in a novel with simlar name written by VS Naipaul. Set in India, some 40 years ago or so, this is a kind of travelogue of author's brief stay in India where he found it to be full of superstitions, ignorance and darkness! Many decades and many MNCs and malls later, few parts of India seemed to have chucked off that tag, but there are many places that haven't and continue to remain shrouded in ignorance. Move few hours away from a city, travel in a second class train compartment or a dilapidated state transport bus and you get to see the dark underbelly of India Shining. As one of the characters in the movie Rang De Basanti says "Yahan zinda rehne ki jung mein logo ki zindagiyan nikal jaati hai" . So true it seems! civilized society ?

An organized communal riots, gaining the proportions of a pogrom ... but the popularity of the person in command (Mr. M) increased and he got a landslide victory in elections! 5 years later - Mr M walks away (rather runs ...!) from a popular TV show when quizzed about his role in that pogrom. A (somewhat questionable!) TV sting showing Mr M's role in that riots Mr M banning TV channels which are about to telecast that! and Mr M and his aides refusing to come out clean ... Still he continues to be at the helm of affairs. He ruled the roost for a long time despite his highly questionable conduct (... without giving any defense, but rather perpetrating hatred which makes us believe more in his role!) Still, he rules the roost (at least as on Friday 26th October, 2007) ... rather he is allowed to ...
